Rachel Brosnahan slams actors for 'complaining' about superhero movies
Rachel Brosnahan hates when actors "complain" about superhero movies.
The 34-year-old actress - who plays Lois Lane in the new Superman movie - has slammed actors and actresses who choose to star in a superhero film, and then rubbish the genre at a later date.
Speaking to Amanda Seyfried for Interview magazine, Rachel explained: "I don’t know why people say yes only to then turn around and complain about it.
"Look, I don’t want to s*** on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it."
Rachel feels particularly proud of the new Superman movie.
She explained: "The cool thing about it is that it’s what you expect, and then there’s more. Of course, there’s great fighting and stunts and big monsters and good and evil."
Rachel thinks it's "cool" to be part of the Superman franchise. However, she finds it to be "intimidating", too.
She reflected: "People have such strong feelings about him and the world and whoever’s in charge of it. It’s cool to be a part of something that people are so passionate about. It’s definitely intimidating, too."
Rachel believes Superman is so popular with cinemagoers because the character is very relatable.
The Hollywood star said: "He loves people, but he’s an alien.
"He’s trying to fit in and walk among people and wants to be like them, but he also knows that he’ll never be quite like them, and that can be isolating. I feel like that’s part of why so many people see themselves in him."
Rachel observed that, on some level, everyone has felt like an outsider at times in their life.
She reflected: "I feel like we all have a little bit of that duelling identity."
The new Superman movie is written and directed by James Gunn, and he previously claimed that "people are looking for heroes right now".
The filmmaker revealed that he was feeling optimistic about the David Corenswet-led film.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at a DC press event, he explained: "I think he’s the right Superman because he is a character that stands for something that is solid, stands for basic human morals, basic human integrity, basic belief in protecting others and protecting the weak being good to people and being honest.
"People are looking for heroes right now. They are looking for values of goodness, looking for people who are good and decent human beings. And Superman is that."
James and Warner Bros plan to throw their full weight behind the promotional campaign for the upcoming film.
The director said: "DZ [David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery] loves what we’re doing, loves the movie, and has really rallied the entire company behind Superman for this summer."
