Michael Fassbender’s production company strengthens commitment to Ireland’s screen industry
Michael Fassbender’s production company has strengthened its commitment to Ireland’s screen industry after securing new investment in the business behind the award-winning film Kneecap.
Michael, 49, whose production outfit DMC was founded alongside Conor McCaughan and Daniel Emmerson, is expanding its Dublin operation after Trevor Birney’s Fine Point Films invested in DMC Entertainment.
The announcement was made at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, where Kneecap enjoyed its Irish premiere in 2024.
Trevor has returned to the festival this year with the documentary You’ll Never Believe Who’s Dead.
The investment comes after Kneecap, directed by Rich Peppiatt and featuring Michael in a supporting role, continued to attract international attention following its BAFTA success and awards recognition, while the film has also remained in the headlines amid wider debate surrounding the Belfast rap trio’s political stances.
As part of the agreement, Tamryn Reinecke has joined DMC Entertainment as a Dublin-based executive producer.
Tamryn, whose previous credits include The Day, Hunting Alice Bell, It Is In Us All and Redemption of a Rogue, will support the company’s growing Irish development slate while overseeing international production partnerships.
According to DMC and Fine Point Films, the investment will “expand their capacity” and is expected to “accelerate the slate of upcoming projects and expand both companies’ reach in the Irish and global markets, combining their expertise across the increasingly frequent shared island productions”.
Michael, Daniel and Conor said: “Irish stories and storytelling has been at the heart of what we’ve built at DMC. We are extremely excited to be ramping up our production capacity in Ireland with the help of Tamryn and Trevor whose taste and instincts are a perfect fit for us.”
DMC has built a growing slate of acclaimed productions, including SXSW breakout LifeHack, Netflix film The Kitchen, BAFTA-nominated Sundance winner Scrapper and the multiple BAFTA-nominated Irish co-production Calm With Horses.
Trevor has produced projects including Saipan, Let the Canary Sing and No Stone Unturned, and is preparing to produce Rich’s second feature, Bad Bridgets.
Michael is best known internationally for portraying the young Magneto in the X-Men film series, as well as starring in Steve McQueen’s Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave, David Fincher’s The Killer and the Alien prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. His supporting role in Kneecap earned him an Irish Film and Television Award nomination after the film’s acclaimed festival run and awards campaign.
Trevor, managing director of Fine Point Films, said: “We’ve long admired what the team at DMC have been building, and this partnership felt like a natural next step. The Dublin office gives us a stronger footprint across the island and a bigger canvas for both companies. Ireland’s film and television industry, north and south, has captured global attention due to the distinctiveness of the work, driven by a combination of creative momentum, strategic investment, and a new confidence in the stories emerging from the island.”
Tamryn said: “Ireland is producing some of the most distinctive film and television work in the world right now, and there’s real momentum behind the industry both creatively and commercially. I’m excited to support DMC’s ambition to grow Ireland not just as an international production destination, but as a place to develop bold Irish stories that can travel globally.”
